Hello, I am Kara, Scar Massage Therapist and Adaptive Yoga Teacher. My passion is helping people recover from traumatic injuries and surgeries while fostering resilience and well-being.
I am a traumatic scar massage therapist with a deep passion for helping individuals heal, physically, emotionally, and mentally after traumatic injuries, surgeries, or limb loss. My work goes beyond physical recovery; it is about creating a safe, compassionate space where you can reconnect with your body, build emotional strength, and regain a sense of wholeness.
My approach combines specialised scar tissue treatments with trauma-informed yoga, mindfulness, and breathwork to support your recovery. I also run practical workshops that introduce movement, breathwork, and self-care techniques, empowering you to continue your recovery at home.
As an Infant Massage Instructor since 2001, I now offer specialised guidance for parents and caregivers supporting children after traumatic births, surgeries, or injuries. By blending infant massage with gentle scar treatment education, I help families navigate their child’s changing body with confidence, ease discomfort, and foster deep bonding.
I specialise in Scar Tissue Massage, using evidence-based techniques to support recovery after surgeries, amputations, or traumatic injuries:
Sharon Wheeler’s ScarWork™ – a gentle hands-on method to soften scar tissue and restore movement.
Restore Scar Therapy – integrates hands-on techniques with cupping, taping, and scar-care guidance.
Myofascial Release – reduces restrictions, improves blood flow, and enhances mobility.
My wellness journey began in South Africa with training in aromatherapy and reflexology. After relocating to the UK, I expanded into sports massage and neuromuscular therapy. A pivotal moment came in 2015 when a close family member lost their leg in a road traffic accident. Witnessing their challenges with phantom limb pain, scarring, and prosthetic use inspired me to deepen my training in scar therapies, leading me to ScarWork™ and Restore Scar Therapy. Since then, I’ve specialised in scar treatment for a wide range of needs from breast cancer recovery to abdominal surgeries and amputation-related scarring.
To better support my clients, I completed over 500 hours of yoga teacher training, focusing on:
Trauma-Informed Yoga
Accessible Yoga & Yoga for Amputees
Mindfulness and Yoga for Veterans (through Warriors at Ease)
These practices help clients manage pain, improve mobility, and regulate the nervous system through gentle movement, breathwork, and meditation. I have worked with UK Invictus Games hopefuls and provided care through the Disability Foundation at Stanmore Hospital, creating personalised, trauma-sensitive plans for those recovering from life-changing procedures.
I run workshops in self-care, scar care, and infant massage, designed to give you practical tools to continue your healing journey at home. These sessions complement private therapy, helping clients integrate movement, breathwork, and mindful practices into daily life.
For families, my infant massage classes combine gentle touch with guidance on scar care and body awareness, supporting children after birth trauma or surgery while fostering connection and confidence for caregivers.
I support individuals and families navigating:
Post-surgical recovery and scarring
Amputation and phantom limb challenges
Chronic pain or musculoskeletal restrictions
Children recovering from medical trauma, including birth trauma, surgeries, or serious illnesses (such as meningitis, heart surgeries, or other interventions)
Whether you are living with chronic illness, recovering from injury, or supporting a loved one through healing, my goal is to help you feel empowered, supported, and whole. Together, we combine hands-on therapy, mindful practices, and practical workshops to restore balance, reduce stress, and promote long-term recovery.
